History of Care & Recovery

From a Dream to Reality

When Layne and Marsha moved from Henderson, Nevada to the Little Rock metro in 2007, they arrived with a dream. Both were in recovery and had significant success by working the 12 Steps in a Christ-centered recovery program. Because of their background, they wanted to bring this type of program to First NLR. In February of 2009, they started Life Recovery Central, a Christ-centered Connection Class that met on Sunday mornings. Over the next four years the class grew. It became very apparent the church and community needed more opportunities for people to experience hope and healing through Christ-centered, Bible-based recovery.

On January 2, 2014, CR First NLR held its first meeting with 105 people in attendance. Since then, the ministry has grown exponentially. Three other campuses of First NLR now have recovery ministries: First Assembly Lonoke, First Assembly Vilonia, and Hope Church in Helena-West Helena.

Every Tuesday night, over 250 men, women, teens, and children gather at First NLR in person, and nearly 1000 watch each week online as Pastor Layne and his team share the hope of Jesus and recovery.

Care & Recovery continues to grow with plans to expand to other campuses and reach more people online. The message is clear at Care & Recovery: Freedom is not only possible, but it is promised for those who surrender and place their faith in Jesus Christ and work this simple program of recovery! Hope happens here!!
